Pretty much every post you find on a blog has at least one picture on it (this one included). Adding a few pictures can elevate your post from dull and boring to exciting and interesting. Obviously, they look great and help to catch people’s eye but there’s more to it than that. Here are some of the best reasons that you should add photos to your blog posts and some tips on getting it right.
It Looks Good
This is the most obvious reason but it’ still worth reiterating. A picture looks good on the blog post, especially when compared with a post that’s all text. If people are choosing between two posts to read, they’ll always choose the one with the picture over the one without. This is especially important when it comes to the thumbnails on a sidebar of a website. People aren’t likely to ever click on anything that doesn’t have a picture next to it.
It Makes You Look Professional
Image is everything, and images on your posts have a big impact on that. People will only continue reading your blog if they think that they’re the kind of person that they can trust. Making sure that you come across as professional is vital if you want to keep readers. Putting photos on your posts gives them a more professional feel but don’t think it’s as simple as just putting any old picture on there. They need to be relevant and they need to be well edited to make them unique. It’s worth taking advanced photoshop classes so you can create high quality, interesting images that will draw your readers in and encourage them to read more of your posts. If you use grainy, out of focus images, it gives the impression that you don’t know what you’re doing.
Search Engine Traffic
Every good blogger knows that search engine traffic is one of the best ways to increase the number of visitors to your site. Images are one of the things that the search engines take into account and posts with lots of pictures tend to feature higher up on the list of results. You do need to remember to name and label your images properly as well. It’s a great way of getting a few extra keywords into your posts and pushing yourself up the rankings.
Better Social Media Engagement
Search engine traffic is one of the most important things for a blogger, but so is their social media presence. It’s all good and well posting regularly but if you aren’t getting any engagement from people then it’s not doing you much good. Getting people to notice your posts and share them is the key to a successful presence. Without pictures, your posts will get lost in the feed with the rest of them. If you put pictures on there, however, people will be far more likely to notice and share your posts. Make sure that you optimize the image for social media and mobile so the quality is good when it’s shared.
Images on your blog posts are more important than you realize and if you get it right, it could really increase your readership.
